Today, I took a hike.
Mickey whirled by in circles, as I walked
In hills secluded,
On trails sheltered,
Through trees tall, scarred and strong — teachers of fortitude and solitude.
Hoping they would hear, I opened my heart and invited them in,
Looking for answers from the wisdom of millennia.
In their silence, they spoke peace and comfort,
From single-minded limbs and trunks forever reaching to the sky,
No matter the neglect of drought, heat or cold.
With a carpet of pine needles and leaves under my feet,
I was strong and tall, too,
With courage in my solitude and sunshine on my face.
