Here is ?poem I wrote for one of my education courses. We were given an outline from which to create our poem. My poem pales in comparison to some of my peers, which were stunningly beautiful. However, I found that writing this poem touched on some creativity I had never tapped into before. I am planning to use this poem form for my future students, so they can also write poems from which they can find inspiration to create art.
I am from…. ? I am from books and art all over the house, ? art supplies, pianos, and trees to plant in our yard. ? I am from trees and flowers, ? and lots of children and music and art and parties. ? I am from thousands of Valentine?s Day roses ? who sang love from my grandparents? flower shop. ? I am from my Dad?s cameras and pink ballet slippers, ? from Dalton and Hermes. ? I am from love, and intelligence and integrity: ? from creativity and craziness, ? from courageous, hardworking farmers, growers and artists. ? I am from prayer, ? from an almost-priest grandfather and a tiny, mighty Great-grandmother, ? from Dad?s grilled chicken and Stephenson?s Orchard peaches in August, ? from a grandma ? business woman, who raised 8 children and fostered countless others, ? and from a Father who suffered religious persecution. ? I am from playing kick-the-can on lightning-bug summer nights. ? I am from a few moments of childhood joy and promise. ?
