Growing up, my home was filled with art, music, dance along with amazing gardens and beautiful, tall trees in our magical backyard. My siblings and I spent countless long afternoons and evenings at the park ? playing and running, along with writing poetry and drawing, when my Mother brought along our sketchbooks and pencils. To these experiences, I bring a lifelong passion for photography and all artistic venues ? viewing, studying and creating. As a child, I would spend hours with every issue of National Geographic and Life magazines, as well as with the countless books of art and literature everywhere in my home. As a photographer, being close to my subjects, whether people, nature or still life, is an essential element of my style. Through my work, I?m passionate about sharing the intrinsic value and beauty of people and nature I see everywhere, all the time, with or without my camera. In order to reach a special and meaningful connection with my subject, I work best with minimal camera and lighting equipment. I prefer the experience of photographing outdoors, or with natural light in an indoor setting. I love the beauty and nuances of natural light and the infinite creative possibilities that present themselves during this collaboration. For the majority of my projects, my preferred medium is film. For color images, except portraiture, I shoot Fuji transparency film and my black and white images are made with Kodak or Ilford films. For portraits, I use Fuji color negative film, because of its wide exposure range. With only a handful of exceptions, my images have had no digital alteration. My work has been printed using a variety of traditional and alternative processes. In addition to years in the darkroom making silver gelatin prints, I have worked with 19th century printing processes and many types of transfers. I?ve experimented and developed my own style of mixing media, such as paint, pastels and pencil with my images, which are often printed on a wide range of materials including silk and metal.
