This?poem was inspired by?the following, a?Navajo?s song about his horse.
Excerpt:
My horse has a hoof like striped agate;
His fetlock is like fine eagle-plume;
His legs are quick lightning.
My horse?s eyes are made of big stars.
The long rainbow is in his mouth for a bridle,
And with it I guide him.?
My Dog
My dog has eyes of amber and onyx–
Unguarded windows to his heart.
My dog?s ears are black velvet,
And when he waves his feathered tail, it smiles.
My dog loves to sniff, chase sticks
And roll in green grass.
He buries himself under fresh snow
Or, whooshes over the top like a rocket.
My dog has go-fast legs;?
When he runs, he is the wind.
My dog loves the car windows down,
Reaching, reaching into the rain or sun.
My dog likes kisses on his head before he eats,
And curls into a tiny circle when he sleeps
My dog is beautiful and funny.
His name is Mickey.?
Nickname: Hollywood.?
Other nickname: My Everything.
