Hiking

Today, I hiked.
Mickey whirled by in circles and I hiked
In hills secluded,
On trails sheltered,
Through trees tall, scarred and strong–teachers of fortitude and solitude.
?
Hoping they would hear, I opened my heart and invited them in,
Looking for answers from the?wisdom of centuries.?
In their silence, they spoke peace and comfort
From single-minded limbs and trunks always?reaching to the sky,
No matter the neglect of drought, heat or cold.
?
Hiking on a carpet of pine needles and leaves,
I was strong and tall, too,
With courage in my solitude and sunshine on my face.
